People today enjoy applications and services from multiple networked devices: notebook and desktop computers, smart phones, tablets, and Internet TVs. With our increasingly mobile lifestyles, it?s time to include the connected car in this mix. As in many other industries, evolving market demands in the automotive industry require new technologies, business models, and collaboration. Drivers and passengers today expect to enjoy all the benefits they experience online at home or in the office also while they?re on the road. New Web-based safety services and solutions are possible now, too, further leveraging the always on, anytime, anywhere features of the Web.
W3C?s Open Web Platform (OWP) represents the drive toward these greater operational efficiencies, global scalability, and new product innovation. The goal of this workshop is to bring together a variety of industry stakeholders to begin a Web technology solutions roadmap for the connected car.
Workshop participants will discuss:
- Driver and passenger benefits possible through the OWP;
- How to navigate industry change;
- Introduction of new driver safety options;
- Integration of personal communications devices with the car;
- New automotive-specific requirements for HTML5;
- Enhanced Web-based connectivity, interactivity and interoperability using location and context awareness, social networks, and rich media.
