If you want a hot, steaming mug of hot cocoa you should consider putting it in an orange or cream colored mug. Why? Because researchers have found that hot cocoa tastes more flavorful in a cream or orange colored cup.
The study adds to the knowledge that there other factors which have nothing to do with actual food preparation that affects the taste of food.
Past studies have shown that taste is influenced by things other than the actual food itself.? Color of the plate, price on a bottle of wine, and the verbal description of a food can all influence people?s taste of food.
According to Yahoo News,? the study?s co-author Betina Piqueras-Fiszman, a researcher at the Universitat Polit?cnica de Val?ncia in Spain and the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom said, ?The color of the container where food and drink are served can enhance some attributes like taste and aroma.?
In order to conduct the study Piqueras-Fiszman and her colleagues asked 57 participants to enjoy some hot chocolate.? They drank the hot cocoa out of four different plastic cups: white, cream, orange, and red.? All the cups were lined white on the inside for the experiment.? The participants who drank from the cream or orange colored cups said their drink was more flavorful.? Participants also said the orange and cream colored cups tasted better even though they said there wern?t any differences in sweetness or aroma between the colored cups according to Live Science.
The findings were published in the October issue of the Journal of Sensory Studies.
