The victory now puts him in firm contention for a gold medal. Despite some early pressure from the reigning world champion, Ogogo fought sensibly and found himself 5-3 ahead at the end of the first round. Khytrov battled back in the second and won the round 7-6 and his 8-7 victory in the third and final round ensured the result went to the judges, but it was the 23-year-old Englishman who caused the upset to keep his Olympic hopes alive. Ogogo will now face either Irishman Darren O? Neill or Stefan Hartel of Germany in the quarter-finals on Monday night.
